Thomas Cromwell was an English statesman and lawyer who served as chief minister to King Henry VIII from 1534 to 1540, when he was beheaded on orders of the King, who later blamed false charges for the execution.

Played a central role in the downfall and execution of Anne Boleyn, orchestrating the charges of adultery and treason. Had clashed with her for years. The evidence was largely fabricated.
Beheaded on Tower Hill after arranging Henry's marriage to Anne of Cleves, which the king despised. Created Earl of Essex just months before his execution. Henry later said he regretted killing him.
