Silvio Berlusconi was an Italian media tycoon and politician who served as the prime minister of Italy in three governments from 1994 to 1995, 2001 to 2006 and 2008 to 2011. He was a member of the Chamber of Deputies from 1994 to 2013; a member of the Senate of the Republic from 2022 until his death in 2023, and previously from March to November 2013; and a member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 2019 to 2022, and previously from 1999 to 2001. At the time of his death in 2023, he had a net worth of US$6.8 billion according to Forbes, making him the 352nd-richest man in the world and the third-wealthiest person in Italy.

1986 Life

Bought AC Milan football club, beginning a 31-year ownership. Already controlled Mediaset, Italy's largest commercial broadcasting company. By his 40s, he was one of the richest men in the country.

1994 Event

Won the Italian general election and became prime minister, founding his own party, Forza Italia, just months before the vote. Served three separate terms totaling nine years, the longest of any postwar Italian PM.

2013 Event

Convicted of tax fraud and sentenced to community service at an old-age home. Expelled from the Senate. Had faced decades of criminal proceedings, from bribery charges to trials involving underage prostitution.
