Published Le Silence de la mer under the pen name Vercors. A novella about a cultured German officer billeted in a French home. Printed on a clandestine press he co-founded, Les Editions de Minuit. The most celebrated work of the French Resistance.

Ran the underground publishing house throughout the occupation. Over 25 titles printed in secret. Authors used pseudonyms. Discovery meant execution.
