Biography

George Miller is an Australian filmmaker. Over the course of four decades he has received critical and popular success, and is widely known for creating and directing every film in the Mad Max franchise starting in 1979, including two entries which are considered two of the greatest action films of all time according to Metacritic. He has earned numerous accolades including an Academy Award from six nominations in five different categories.

1979 Event

Mad Max released. Budget of $400,000 Australian. He filmed real car crashes on closed highways with volunteer stunt drivers. It grossed $100 million worldwide.

1995 Event

Directed Babe, about a pig who wants to be a sheepdog. Won an Oscar nomination. People couldn't believe the same person made Mad Max.

2006 Event

Happy Feet won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. He'd gone from dystopian car chases to singing penguins. He saw no contradiction.

2015 Event

Mad Max: Fury Road released after 15 years in development. He was 70 years old. It won six Oscars. The entire film is essentially one long chase scene.
