Biography

David Eric Grohl is an American musician. He founded the rock band Foo Fighters, of which he is the lead singer, guitarist, principal songwriter, and only consistent member. From 1990 to 1994, he was the drummer of the grunge band Nirvana.

1990 Event

Joins Nirvana as drummer after Scream breaks up. He's 21. Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic hire him after one audition. Three months later, they're recording Nevermind.

1994 Event

Cobain dies. Nirvana is over. Grohl has a cassette of 40 songs he recorded alone in his basement. He books a studio, plays every instrument himself, and records what becomes the first Foo Fighters album. He doesn't tell anyone until it's finished.

1997 Event

Foo Fighters release The Colour and the Shape, with "Everlong" and "My Hero." The band becomes one of the biggest rock acts of the late 1990s. Grohl starts directing their music videos himself.

2014 Event

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Nirvana. Seven years later, he's inducted again with the Foo Fighters. Only the 10th person inducted twice with two different groups.
