Published Unua Libro, the first textbook of Esperanto, under the pseudonym Doktoro Esperanto ("Doctor Hopeful"). The language had 16 rules, no exceptions, and was designed to be learned in weeks.
Presided over the first World Esperanto Congress in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France. 688 delegates from 20 countries. They conducted all business in Esperanto. Many wept at hearing their language spoken aloud.
