Yellow Ford Rout: O'Neill Destroys English Force
Hugh O'Neill's Irish forces ambushed and destroyed an English relief column under Henry Bagenal at the Yellow Ford, killing Bagenal himself and routing over 4,000 troops. The victory, the worst English military defeat in Ireland to that point, triggered a wave of rebellion across the island and forced Queen Elizabeth to commit massive reinforcements.
